Foster’s unleash the cat…
A new Jaguar modified sprinter painted in a resplendent Jaguar skin was introduced by the Foster, father and son team at Sandown for the first round of the JAGDAIM 2010 series. With nearly 12 month’s preparation, the Fosters were still finishing preparations late into the night before the event.

2010 being the second year for the modified class saw an increase in numbers, with 8 cars entered. MacKrell, Robinson, Kenna, Duncalf, John Larkins and the Fosters have moved up to the modified class for this season. Pearmain and Thompson both decided to remain in the un-modified class.
The Foster’s sprinter had some electrical problems in practice, which would force them both to miss their runs in the first timed session. It did not take long for Wheeler to show that last season’s problems had been sorted on the Jagdaim sprinter when he broke the existing lap record on his second lap, 1.28.99. Robinson was quick (1.33.09) as were Randall (1.34.16) & MacKrell (1.34.73). Yorke, Duncalf, & Ian Sinclair were lapping in the 1.38’s ahead of Larkins and Kenna in the 1.40’s.
The un-modified class was interesting with Thompson taking the points with a blistering time of 1.34.83 ahead of Pearmain 1.38.39. However, Thompson’s aggressive style cost him points, when he cracked his sump cover running over the ripple strip at turn three. He managed to finish the session with low oil pressure but would be out for the rest of the meeting.
Robinson was faster in the second session (1.32.00) but with Wheeler gaining confidence in the car, again broke the lap record (1.28.92). Co-driver Randall did his fastest lap ever, recording (1.33.66). MacKrell was next with Duncalf moving up the placing’s and the remainder of the field finishing in the same order as the previous session. Foster Jnr. managed to get some laps in with a best time of 2.06.13. His father Foster Snr was black flagged before recording a time. The catchment tank failed, with oil spilling onto the engine and trailing smoke, the car was ordered off the track. Pearmain matched Thompson’s previous time (1.34.83) but slowed on the remaining laps. Returning to pit lane, Phil was worried if he could get the car back for the final session.
Having sorted out the gremlins, Foster Snr finally got a timed run and although slowest (2.11.60) he did finish. His son lowered his best time (1.55.66) and Larkins was consistent in the (1.41’s). Kenna improved with (1.39.52). Sinclair, Yorke & Duncalf held positions but Randall fell back to 4th spot. MacKrell moved to third place, Robinson recorded his best time of (1.31.54), but Wheeler took the points with (1.29.53). Pearmain managed a (1.35.02) and with 3 timed runs took the points in the un-modified class.
The placing’s for round 1 were:
XJ6 Sprinters: 1st – Phil Pearmain, 2nd David Thompson.
XJ6 Modified Sprinters: 1st – Wheeler, 2nd Robinson 3rd Randall.
