Round 4 was run at Phillip Island as part of the Victorian State Sprint Championship...

Paul Duncalf had competed in the first round of the Victorian Sprint Championship, held at Sandown on the Easter weekend.  When the second round was announced it was decided to make it round 4 of the JAGDAIM Sprinter series.

With the smallest field of sprinters assembled for the year, the dramas unfolding over the day would more than compensate for the lack of entries.

First casualty was the sponsor’s JAGDAIM entry, which had won the last 3 rounds with Wheeler behind the wheel. Randall was driving and he lost all gears as he approached turn 1 on his first session.  Both Brian and Gary had managed to record a lap time but it would be their only time for the day. 

With the fastest sprinter parked behind the pits, it was Rob Sinclair’s chance to record a win in the modified group.  Rob (2.04.81) finished second in the first session behind Wheeler (1.57.76) but in front of Randall (2.07.12).  Fourth place went to Duncalf, back from overseas, (2.10.23) followed by Foster Snr (2.11.49), Yorke (2.13.05), Tidd (2.14.44), Kenna (2.14.99) and Foster Jnr (2.15.70).

David Thompson was the fastest and only un-modified sprinter with 2.01.13.

However, it was part time driver, Rowland Tidd, in the Kenna Sprinter who took the points for second session with a dramatic improvement (2.02.79) ahead of Rob Sinclair (2.03.39) then Kenna 2.07.71.  Fourth place again went to Duncalf (2.09.40), then Yorke (2.10.08), Foster Jnr, (2.11.89) and Foster Snr, (2.13.94).  Thompson’s time in the un-modified class was 2.01.52.

The placing’s for the final session were again shuffled with Tidd reasserting his dominance taking first place with 2.03.17, then Duncalf with 2.10.41 and in third place was Kenna 2.12.43.  Yorke took fourth place with 2.13.00, then a very slow Sinclair 2.18.24, followed by Foster Jnr, 2.31.01 and his father 2.38.87.

Thompson was slower in his third session with 2.03.17.

Although Brian only managed one session he was more than impressed with the Victorian Sprint Championship and has suggested that the sprinters compete at all three rounds for the next season.

XJ6 Sprinters: 1st – Thompson. 
XJ6 Modified Sprinters: 1st – Rowland Tidd, 2nd Rob Sinclair, 3rd Paul Duncalf
