WHEELER TAKES HAT-TRICK IN LAP RECORDS…

Brian Wheeler continued his excellent form for 2010 by setting a new lap record at Phillip Island as well as being the fastest Jaguar for the day.

Round 3 of the JAGDAIM series was run at the island with JCCV as the host club.  Brian organised the meeting and once again put on a great event with many drivers commenting on it being a great event.  The weather was overcast with a “scotch mist” falling early in the day.  This would improve with some sunshine later but surprisingly it stayed dry.

Despite the wet track, Brian was the only driver to record his fastest time for the day in the first session, a new lap record, 1.55.53. This was the fastest ever lap in a XJ6 Jaguar and also the fastest Jaguar time recorded for the day.  David Thompson (Sprinter class) again impressed with his XJ6 recording the second fastest time in this session of 2.02.33.   Being the only “un-modified” sprinter, David’s times during the day would embarrass the rest of the sprinters.

Mike Crosbie’s day came to a halt during his first run when his diff seized coming out of MG, leaving him stranded on the ripple strip.  Without recording any times, Mike was restricted to only 1 point for the meeting.   Rowland Tidd, co-driving in the Kenna sprinter, missed the first session due to the track conditions.

MacKrell, Robinson, Duncalf and Pearmain were missing from the grid.

In the second session all sprinters, except Wheeler, recorded their fastest lap times for the day.  Thompson again led the way with 2.10.47, ahead of Rob Sinclair 2.10.50 and Randall 2.04.28.  Yorke ( 2.07.14) was next with Tidd (2.07.20), Larkins (2.08.70), Kenna ( 2.09.49) and Ian Sinclair ( 2.10.43).  The Fosters continued their family battle with Jnr (2.12.97) ahead of his father (2.19.69).
Ian Sinclair had mechanical problems and missed the third timed session, reducing his points for the overall round.  Randall’s erratic times would cost him a place on the podium and letting John Larkins take third place.

The placing’s for round 3 were:

XJ6 Sprinters: 1st – Thompson.
XJ6 Modified Sprinters: 1st – Wheeler, 2nd Rob Sinclair, 3rd John Larkins

Thanks once again for our sponsor, JAGDAIM supporting our series.   The next round of the JAGDAIM XJ6 Sprinter series is to be run at Phillip Island on 18th July 2010.
