2 Champions for 2009 JAGDAIM season …
2009 started with the introduction of another innovative class created for Sprinters, with the introduction of the Modified class, and ended with two new Champions after the final round at Sandown.
The battle for the Modified Sprinter trophy did not eventuate with Yorke not entering, but it would have been interesting if he had run. Rob Sinclair’s sprinter was to suffer overheating problems during the day with only 1 lap on his first run, followed by 2 laps in the second session. In the 3rd session Rob changed cars but forgot to change racing numbers and his times were not recorded. Paul Zazryn was back, sharing one of the Sinclair sprinters, along with Rob’s brothers, Ian and Hugh and problems with spark plugs.
The sponsor’s sprinter driven by Wheeler and Randall was running as hot as the weather conditions with Brian setting new lap record 1.28.3 on his second lap. The clutch was slipping, but still biting, however, the high speed was also matched by the high noise readings (77 decibels). Brian made some modifications before Gary had his first run, beating his fastest ever lap time for Sandown by 2 seconds. This was despite the clutch problems and backing off for the noise meters. However, it was not enough and was still 2 points over the limit of 75. The car was forced to withdraw for the rest of the meeting. New rules in force mean that the car is only given one warning before expulsion. Now that they have the pace, Brian will now have to find a way to keep it quiet.
Zazryn was fastest for the remainder of the day and despite sharing Sinclair’s sprinter he was not held to team orders. Zazryn was taking points from Rob Sinclair who was third fastest ahead of his brothers, Ian and James. James in fact was second fastest in the final session ahead of Ian and matching Rob’s earlier times.
Despite overheating problems, failing to display race numbers and Paul Zazryn taking points, Rob Sinclair finished the day with a 10 point winning margin for the season and will receive his first Championship trophy.
The trophy for the non-modified class was a lot closer with Trevor MacKrell only holding a 6 point lead at the start of the day. The two David’s, Thompson and Robinson ensured that the trophy was up for grabs. Thompson’s second place in the standings was due to consistent results. Not bad for a rookie. Robinson, on the other hand was winning round after round but his third place in the points was due to missing earlier rounds. Robinson again took the points for each of the three sessions, with MacKrell second and Thompson third. Crosbie and Duncalf swapped positions all day and both ended with equal fourth place ahead of Kenna.
The placing’s for round 6 were:
XJ6 Sprinters: 1st – David Thompson, 2nd Trevor MacKrell and David Thompson in 3rd place.
XJ6 Modified Sprinters: 1st – Zazryn, 2nd Ian Sinclair and James Sinclair in 3rd place.
Congratulations to both Trevor and Rob for winning their first Championship trophies. They have been competing for several years and it is great to see both of them being rewarded for their efforts and dedication.
The JAGDAIM 2009 Trophies will be presented to:
Trevor MacKrell - Sprinters Champion
Rob Sinclair - Modified Sprinters Champion
Best Contribution to the series – Paul Duncalf for promoting our series & arranging for sprinters to compete in New South Wales.
Edd Adamson Trophy – Brian Wheeler & Jagdaim for engineering and developing the modified series along with assisting in building 3 new modifieds for 2010.
And last but not least, the Massey Ferguson Trophy….it was a hard decision but after much deliberation it was awarded to the Jagdaim modified sprinter which failed to finish any of the 6 rounds for 2009.
