PEARMAIN BREAKS THE DROUGHT WITH A WIN AT WINTON

The second round of the JAGDAIM 2007 series was run at Winton with a much diminished field of Jaguars. The JAGDAIM team of Wheeler and Redel would not make the starting grid as Dirk Redel was to front the church alter for his wedding. Rumors were rife that team orders had been reversed with Wheeler now acting as the bridesmaid.

With only two weeks between rounds one and two, only three XJ6 Sprinter drivers made the long trip to Winton. Their appearance was rewarded as both Pearmain & Sinclair once again had the chance to compete against an ex-Perkins Jack Daniel’s V8 Racing Commodore.

Victoria has been suffering a very long drought with extreme hot conditions yet the night before this round the heavens opened up with a thunderstorm. On race day the skies were still very dark with rain threatening.

Practice was run in dry conditions but the rain started for the first timed session with very slow lap times being recorded. It has been a long time since the drivers have run on a wet track and Pearmain was the fastest of the three Jags on the first lap with (2.07.87) followed Rob Sinclair and Kenna both in the 2.09’s. Pearmain quickly came to grips with the wet track and dropped down to 2.03.86 on his fourth lap to take the first points for the day. Sinclair suffering from clutch problems, slowing his gear changes was next fastest with 2.08.03 and Kenna 2.08.08.

There was a dry line on the track for the second session but there were still puddles of water just off the race line. Both Pearmain and Sinclair were now lapping under the 2 minute mark but Kenna was having problems and only bettered his first session time with a 2.03.74 on lap four. Sinclair’s best time was 1.52.71 but Pearmain was clearly out in front with a 1.46.07.

The final round was run in very hot humid conditions. With a fast dry track and all three drivers were to record their best times for the day. Kenna was now lapping under 2 minutes with a best time of 1.59.52. Sinclair was overcoming his clutch problems and recorded 1.47.66. However, Pearmain once again proved to be the fastest Jaguar on the track with a 1.45.57 to take the session and the round win.

Phil Pearmain now leads the JAGDAIM XJ6 SPRINTERS SERIES Championship Points table with 34 points followed by Rob Sinclair on 31 points and Barry Kenna third on 24 points.
