Results for Round 4 - 2006
Sandown - Sunday, 13th August
2006
SANDOWN
INTERNATIONAL RACETRACK, home of the Sandown 500 race for V8’s
was the venue for round 4 of the JAGDAIM XJ6
Sprinters/Lites 2006 series.
Once
again the series sponsors’ sprinter, driven by Wheeler and
co-driver, Redel dominated the round with Wheeler taking maximum
points in all three sessions followed closely by Redel.
The first
session, run in sunny conditions was dominated by Wheeler, recording
a best lap of (1.30.02) just outside the existing lap record of
(1.29.86) held by Scoble. Next fastest was Redel (1.33.04), and
then MacKrell (1.35.90) who has only just returned to the series
having missing all of 2005, finished the round on the podium with
strong third place.

Garry Randall |

Crosbie leading Kenna |
Randall
in the Kenna Motorsport sprinter was next fastest (1.39.25) and
both he and Kenna were elated with the car once again finishing
the round without any problems. Kenna (1.43.04) ahead of Crosbie
(1.45.51) who whilst still sorting out his new sprinter had his
first DNF free run. The surprise of the session was rookie Hugh
Sinclair. Hugh was having his first run in the series and recorded
a faster time (1.47.71) than that of his father, Rob. Rob was shown
a black flag forcing him back into the pits when the top of the
boot lid of his sprinter came away from the body, flapping like
an extended rear spoiler. Rob had only completed his first lap of
(1.58.14). Sandown has not been lucky for Rob as round 1 of 2005
saw the front bonnet of his older sprinter leave the car flying
backwards as it passed the finish line.

Sinclair leading son Hugh |

Mike Crosby |
With
his boot lid secured with race tape, Rob Sinclair attacked the next
session with (1.40.46) first lap. Brake problems with the pedal
consistently hitting the floor prevented quicker times for Rob.
Wheeler was out in front only just slower than his first session
with (1.30.47) but still ahead of the very consistent, Redel whose
best time of (1.32.11) was recorded for both his third and fourth
laps. MacKrell was next with (1.35.63), then Randall (1.38.43),
Rob Sinclair and Kenna (1.41.61) holding off both Crosbie (1.43.97)
and Hugh Sinclair (1.45.85).

With
two other competitors having blown their engines, the third timed
session was delayed. By the time the session commenced a strong
head wind was causing problems for the sprinters. Wheeler commented
that the front of the car was very twitchy as he braked at the end
of the back straight entering the essess down towards Dandenong
corner. Despite these difficult conditions, some of the drivers
still managed to better their respective times. Wheeler (1.30.46)
still led Redel who was now down in the (1.31’s), and MacKrell
was also faster with (1.34.80) with Randall slower (1.39.64).

Trevor Mackrell |

in the garage |
Surprisingly
the big mover was rookie Hugh Sinclair, with his best time for the
day (1.42.10) ahead of his father again (1.42.17), Kenna (1.42.24)
and Crosbie (1.44.03). Hugh’s first outing in a Sprinter clearly
demonstrated that he could become one of the top Sprinters in the
future. Rob however had a day to forget with receiving a black flag
for a loose boot lid, constant brake problems and gear box problems
causing the gear shift to lock in neutral.
