Results for Round
1 - 2005
Sandown - Sunday, 13th February 2005

The Jagdaim
2005 series was launched in style in February at the headquarters
of our series sponsor, Jagdaim Automotive P/L along with the new
team Kenna Motorsport with new drivers, Kenna and Randall.
The drivers
elected to adopt a new constitution along with the formation of
The Jaguar XJ6 Sprinters Drivers Association. This new independent
association has elected a committee which will be responsible for
running the 2005 series.
The silly
season has also hit the sprinters with driver changes. Anthony Larkins
has left the King Gee team and will now co-drive with Hogan Motorsport.
There are also changes to sponsorship with
coming on board for the first round at Sandown on 13th February
Jim Mullholland
was out fast in the first session and with a time of 1.30.66 was
just under a second slower than the track record. Pearmain was second
fastest with 1.33.06, closely followed by A. Larkins in his new
team with 1.33.21 and Sinclair back after a long break with 1.33.70
and Duncalf recording 1.37.29.
The
new team of Kenna and Randall recorded times of 1.42.82 & 1.58.92
respectively. These were to be their only times as the engine blew
a head gasket and they were forced to retire early. Despite their
early retirement they were both still grinning at the end of the
day and cannot wait for the next round once again at Sandown on
Sunday 10th April.
Scott recorded a new lap record for the Lites on his second lap
with 1.41.49, a second faster which left John Larkins to take second
place with a 1.44.58.
There
were no changes for the second session with J. Larkins lapping faster.
Sinclair on lap 3 exited the back straight with too much speed causing
him to have a huge slid in reverse as headed towards Dandenong Roar
corner. However Sinclair did get it back together and on his last
lap recorded another 1.33.70.
Mullhulland
limped back into the pits at the end of his third session with a
strange noise emitting from the rear. A quick inspection revealed
that the rota had separated from the rear ventilated disc and A.
Larkins was to miss his drive with the car being retired. Mullholland
still managed to record his fastest lap for the day with 1.30.32
just over half a second off the lap record. Duncalf was putting
in his fastest laps for the day with a best of 1.36.62. Sinclair
was still in the high 1.33’s with Pearmain slowing down to
the 1.35’s. Scott was still fastest in the Lites with J. Larkins
still lowing his times and now down to 1.44.30.
In the
super sprints Rob Sinclair flew the flag for Jaguar, recording his
best times for the day with 1.32’s, holding out most of the
Holdens but saved his best for the last lap when his bonnet became
dislodged. The bonnet then became airborne, clearing the car and
landing on the main straight just past the finish line.
At his
stage our race dates for 2005 have not been confirmed but our next
round will be at Sandown on April 10th. This round will see the
return of Wheeler and Redel in their Sprinter with a new sponsor
in JAGDAIM along with Trevor MacKrell. Crosbie will be back in his
Lite along with Murray Scoble but in a Lite and with his unique
speedway style of driving the spectators will be in for a real treat.
The complete 2005 race calendar will be posted in our next report.
